Telephone Line Interface (DAA)

A telephone line interface, also called a DAA or Data Access Arrangement, provides the connective circuitry between subscriber equipment, such as fax, modem or answering machine, and the telephone line. The primary purpose of the telephone interface circuit is to protect the telephone line from damage in the event of a problem on the subscriber side.

FCC Part 68 Compliance :

In the United States all equipment connected to the telephone line must meet FCC Part 68 Rules. The telephone interface provides much of that compliance. All Cermetek telephone line interface modules comply with FCC Part 68 rules. Some including the CH1840 and XE0068DT include FCC Part 68 Registration as protective devices. This registration is transferable to Cermetek customers without additional FCC Part 68 Testing.

Line Monitor Functions :

All Cermetek DAA modules monitor the telephone line for incoming Ring signals. Some of our telephone interface modules also monitor the voltage on the telephone line to determine when the line is available for use.

Caller ID :

Some Cermetek telephone line interface modules allow passage of the Caller ID signal through to the host equipment. The host equipment can then decode the Caller ID signal and respond only to selected numbers.

Packages :

Cermetek offers telephone line interface modules in a variety of package styles including hermitically sealed products for harsh environments, open circuit board modules for lowest cost, and a choice of through-hole or surface-mount modules.

Leased Lines :

Leased lines provide a permanent connection between two points. Because no switching is done on these lines, they typically do not carry loop current. Many Cermetek DAA modules will operate without the presence of loop current.

The Selection Guide below is intended to simplify selection of a telephone line interface.
