CH1794A ET, Rugged Embedded Modem reports on Railway Traffic. |
DESCRIPTION
Railway accidents cause substantial financial losses plus the potential for the loss of life of railroad employees and the public. To prevent accidents the railway industry maintains a constant safety vigil. Railroads monitor the position of trains. Because a train can be thousands of yards long a single GPS system is insufficient to locate the train. Axle counters are used to identify the location of the entire length of the train.
Rugged embedded modems such as the CH1794A ET are used by the railways to link the axle counters into a coherent network. The network allows the railway to identify which length of track is occupied at any given time. Knowing which track is occupied allows the railroad to keep trains safe distances apart while running as much traffic as the line can bear.
Why Cermetek?
The axle counters sit in remote locations along the rail line. They are enclosed but still subject to extreme environmental conditions. The CH1794A ET operates from -40° to +85° Celsius. It is also hermetically sealed with a layer of epoxy protecting the modem from moisture.
