CHxxxx, Embedded Modem Family Supplies Remote Access to Process Controller. |
DESCRIPTION:
Any process can only be controlled if there is adequate feedback. A remote communications port on allows data to be collected from the process controller. Dial-up modems serve this function well because of the intrinsic reliability of the telephone network. Not all processes generate the same amount of data so they do not all need the same type of modem. The faster a process is the more data they will need to be collected and retrieved through the remote communications port.
A process control vendor could supply a high speed modem for every remote communications port. However, in low speed applications there would be a penalty in cost and connect times if a high-speed modem were used for low-speed connections. Giving the controller manufacturer a modem choice enable him to tailor the system to the application.
Why Cermetek?
The Cermetek CHxxx modems are a pin compatible family of modems supporting communications at 2400 bps (CH1786A), 14,400 bps (CH1794A), 33,600 bps (CH1799A), and 56,000 bps (CH2056A). These modems are not only physically compatible but the commands used to control modem operation are common as well. The combination of common pin functions and software compatability permits the process controller vender to select the modem best suited for that customer’s application.
