Xecom announces XE24S minature, low-cost transceivers for embedded systems :

Complete 2.4 GHz FHSS Transceivers in a Compact, Easy-to-Use, SMT Module

XE242S

Xecom, Inc., the embedded communications specialist, today announced a family of 2.4 GHz, frequency hopping transceivers. The XE24S series introduces a full-featured transceiver at less than 1/3 the size and half the cost of similar transceiver modules.  Embedded systems designers also benefit from the only surface-mount 2.4 GHz transceiver and from the same easy to use interface introduced in the Xecom XE900S transceiver series.

The XE24S transceiver comes in four models.  All use the same simple serial interface and frequency hopping scheme. Any XE24S transceiver can communicate with any other XE24S model. The models differ only in output power and antenna selection.  The XE24S100C and XE24S100D deliver a maximum output power of 100 mW; the XE24S500C and XE24S500D boost the maximum output power to 500 mW.  The “C” suffix on the XE24S100C and XE24S500C identifies the presence of an on-board chip antenna which eliminates the need to source and place a large antenna.  The “D” Suffix identifies models with a dipole antenna connector. (The dipole antenna is not included with the module.) These variations allow the designer to select the combination that best meets his communications needs and cost targets.

The XE24S simplifies the integration of wireless communications into embedded systems.  The small package, modular certification, on-board chip antenna, and simple serial interface combine to allow the OEM designer to add communications without any RF design or compromising his design goals.

“Xecom set the strategic goal of making a modem module as cost effective to our customer as a modem they designed themselves.” said Steve Clary Xecom Vice President of Marketing. “That means not only low modem prices, but savings for manufacturing as well.”

Applications

XE24S models target applications needing a compact global solution for low-cost wireless data transfer. These applications include automated meter reading (AMR), security systems and medical monitoring.
